Oh dear, I have ruffled your feathers - pity that you have tended to
concentrate on that 5 minutes of a fantastic 12120 minutes week.Ignoring all
the positives for our canals of the future - the local kids we talked to at
Dukinfield, the local kids we give lifts to, and explain the differences
between our narrow boat and a barge. The learning of the skills of bowhauling a
butty, of strapping bollards and gates, long lining and cross
strapping..........
I could also take you comments as a slur against my professionalism of 43
years teaching, and of the way that I given messages to the 527 youngsters that
I have introduced to our wonderful world of waterways - but luckily the
messages that I received back from the parents and ex-canallers at an18th
birthday party of one, last night, enable me to keep everything in balance.
What we should be doing is fighting this nanny state of Risk assessments and
litigation that Bob mentions - they are a far greater risk to our youngsters
future than any retrieving of a ball!
