Somebody else may have already replied with the answer to this but I
can't be doing with wading through hundreds of emails to find out!!!

The 2006 National was originally planned to be held at Windsor Great
Park. Unfortunately, the security services vetoed the use of the site
for such a large event. Beale Park was the nearest available alternative
site.

On a broader front, Nationals are first and foremost held at sites which
can cope with the event! There are a limited number of locations large
enough to accommodate the festival site, car parks and camping.

Secondly, the primary objective of the festival is to promote the
waterways to the general public. This is why the event moves around the
country year on year (with a general intention of the event appearing in
the North, Midlands and South on a regular basis)

Each year, the event trys to promote something of a local nature. It may
be a canal or canal route under threat or a restoration project or a new
scheme etc. This is a secondary objective which influences the choice of
site

Hope that answers the question
