I do know what you mean, but look at it this way: I could hire a 
boat for a week or two, I could have a nice holiday and it could 
perhaps put me off or make me more determined, but exactly what 
would I have really learned from the experience?  I've had holidays 
in France, Portugal, Ireland, Jersey, in America,  but I'm not so 
naive as to think I saw enough to give me an accurate picture of 
those places, or to set me up with the information needed to make a 
considered judgement as to whether I should up sticks and move there 
or not.
I'm hoping that, armed with the right info, I can make a judgement 
about buying a boat or not.  I should say that I don't envisage this 
happening within the next year, if at all, but I don't want to 
persue unrealistic dreams either: what would you do in my position?
