There was a proposal a few years back to build an allegedly willow
fired power station just south of Dunball Wharf on the River Parrett
in Somerset. Apparently the idea was to grow coppiced willow all
over the Somerset Levels as a carbon neutral fuel, and perhaps to
import some via the wharf. It later transpired that the proponents
intended to burn rather a lot of 'waste wood', including chipboard
off-cuts and such, which have other, less benign, chemical
components. The scheme seems to have gone away.
