A three hour chug brought us to Ansty at lunchtime and plenty of space
on the VMs just west of The Rose & Castle. Whilst dealing with the
ropes it was not too hard to notice that the dogs of Ansty had been
permitted to leave us several fresh welcome gifts. I managed not to
tread in any, but it was a close run thing !

And then, at the water point, it was impossible to get alongside due to
a big underwater obstruction. Come to think of it this length of canal
has those sloping big stone sides, many of which have slipped, crumbled
or been knocked into the canal. That perhaps accounts for the frequent
difficulties encountered when waiting to one side at a bridgehole for
oncoming traffic.

And another thing, are they called Ansty banks - that bit of embankment
between the social club and the M69 ? It's been mentioned before but a
great length of this has been designated "no mooring" presumably to
keep nasty boats away from the resident's bedroom windows. Can't they
pull the curtains ? I can see why it would be undesirable for a colony
of unlicensed and/or shed encumbered boats to take root but surely a
quick turn round 24 hour "en route" stopover should be allowed.
