Yes - the effect of speed is even more obvious on an oil-fired boiler 
where even a slight change in throttle opening can make the difference 
between the boiler beating the engine and the engine beating the boiler.

It did seem to us that the problems of depth were especially bad from 
Aynho south, where I assume silt gets into the canal from the river and 
then gets deposited in the still water.
