One of my auto lifejackets inflated itself following what may be termed
"a surfeit of condensation" in a locker the other day. So I have
brought home 2 of the 3 that reside on Uncle Mort. Why I didn't bring
all 3 I cannot remember, possibly because I imagined using the
unexploded one as a guide to reconstructing the floppy one.

Anyway, some of you may know that we live near Poole, one of the
biggest sailing centres in this country, yet I have not been able to
track down a convincing stockist of parts for this quality brand of
lifejacket. Nobody had 3 kits available but suggested that alternative
parts from another manufacturer "would be OK". I telephoned the
manufacturers UK agent to ask who was their preferred local stockist
and they named one of those who had been unconvincing.

They then kindly talked me through what I needed by my reference to the
floppy jacket and agreed to send the parts direct. Indeed their
suggestion that an advice document could be downloaded from their
website has proved correct. So I started reading that and discovered
that the 2 jackets I have at home, bought at the same instant, have two
differing auto-inflate valves. Thus the kits of bits I had ordered were
not appropriate. So I've spoken to the nice lady again and now ordered
2 kits for each version of the valve and will set about refurbing the
jackets as soon as the postman brings the goodies.
