I suppose in comparison to two cylinder types, a 1.5 is a "high revving
engine" - but only in that way.

We put a second hand 1.5 in Mintball 20 years ago this summer.  OK,
we've had two fairly substantial chunks of work done on it, but it's now
better than its ever been and good for another decade at least.

We're not continuous cruisers by any stretch, but when we are on we tend
to travel - 10 days of 12 hours on the trot is not uncommon.

I don't consider that as "throwaway".
