Hi All,
Just to let you know that Albion departed the Kingsley Canal Side Bar and
Restaurant moorings at 06.45 today and travelled non-stop (other than one
significant weed hatch moment) to arrive at Longwood Junction visitor moorings
at 14.20. We passed just a few moored boats in the B&F Minworth area but from
then on, on the Tame Valley and Rushall, we never saw one boat (except one
solitary nb on an end of garden mooring above the bottom 7 locks of the Rushall
flight). There are quite a few boats moored here at Longwood, of course,
because of the boat club. We start the (BW inform us) weedy bit tomorrow on the
Daw End Branch of the W&E and the W&E itself. BUT, the bottom of the Rushall
was weedy enough (and BW made no mention of that) so tomorrow could be
interesting. If BW's DEFRA grant is cut then I can see the Tame Valley and the
Rushall etc going back to an old type of Remainder status (like the bad old
days) and that would be a pity. I guess it's use 'em or lose 'em maybe. I spoke
to a fisherman on the Tame Valley and said " I'll bet I'm the only boat you'll
see today!" and he replied that I was the first boat that he'd seen in 3 days,
never mind 1. The weather was glorious and it made the trip even more enjoyable
because of it.
Roger
Norton Canes on the Cannock Extension tomorrow.
