I had initial trouble getting my email sending to work. The problem
turned out to be that TalkTalk had given me an incorrect name for its
SMTP server. Once I got the right name, things worked fine. I wonder
if that is your friend's email problem too? My TalkTalk email is
working with:
SMTP server - smtp.talktalk.net
POP3 server - pop3.talktalk.net
Perhaps he should try those?
Once I realised I had been told the wrong SMTP server, I started
wondering if I had also been told the wrong news server
(news.talktalk.net). I spent an hour on the phone to customer
services and technical support. Amazingly, no-one of the eight
different bods I talked to had ever heard of a news server. If I
hadn't received the information that there is one from TalkTalk in
writing during the set-up routine, I would have been beginning to
doubt there was one too. I have now written a long, polite, but
almost-end-of-patience email to TalkTalk about it, but no reply yet.
Oh yeah, I was promised "up to 8 meg". I am getting 1.1 meg.
Although, to be fair, I am quite a way from the exchange and the line
is noisy.
Still, it is better than Tiscali dial-up.
