Despite its spa town reputation, Leamington, especially South Town,
which the canal goes through, has a quite high crime rate, though I did
go to the canal festival a couple of years ago and saw no sign of
trouble.

If I wanted to food-shop in the area, I'd stop at Sainsbury's / Shires
Retail Park a bit towards Warwick or Tesco's on the Warwick / Leamington
boundary, which are a bit away from the less desirable estates. There
are some nice specialist shops in central Leamington and central
Warwick, but they are quite a way from the canal.
