There was quite a reasonable-sized item in the paper about boats being
transported past the Caen Hill stoppage so I think something which got a
boat by road to media-friendly locality might be useful. The paradox of
boats having to go by road because they can't go by water might tickle a
few headline-writers. My guess is that one boat on a lorry outside the
Houses of Parliament in January might well attract more attention than a
convoy on the Thames.

If possible I'd suggest playing the heritage card and get a working boat
(what about PRESIDENT while she's out of action having her boiler
retubed?) - the masts and stands on a working boat make it ideal for
displaying banners saying something like BRITISH HERITAGE AT RISK FROM
BRUSSELS, to tap into the current debate about what Britishness is.

Sean

PS It might be tactless to have banners saying BOATERS DO IT CLOTHED UP.
