Hi all
Can one of the elctrickery gurus please update me on the present
position re isolation transformers? Not why I need one - I know that,
but what the latest best buy is!
I seem to recall JT or someone saying that they might have a line on
something cheaper than the usual suspects.
I ask this as I have now acquired a Victron 1200/50 combi unit and will
need to think about installing it once I'm back on the boat for more
than a day.
BTW I've been thinking about how to automatically avoid flattening the
batteries with the immersion heater once I install it. I want it to
only operate when mains is present and to disconnect if there's a power
cut while I'm away from the boat. I know that in most cases I wouldn't
leave it on in those circumstances but at my age the memory is suspect
:-)}
ATM my plan is to put a 12v coil relay in the live side of the immersion
heater feed and to use the second charger output of the Victron to
energise the coil when the combi is in charge mode (ie when mains is
present). Does that sound practical? I don't need the second charger
o/p for anything else as I have the Gibbmo to manage engine/domestic
battery charging.
BTW all this means that I have a 25amp charger and separate 1500w quasi
sine wave inverter for sale. Bought on a last day deal at the NWF.
Email privately if interested.
Cheers
Guy
