I can't help thinking a lot of the chat on this has missed the mark. The impending problems for BW are not primarily those presented by DEFRA themselves - or even the UK government. The problem is the *fine* that has come from the EU. What was the intention behind this? To harm BW and all the other DEFRA 'subsidiaries'? No, I am sure it was intended to punish the UK government/DEFRA itself. I doubt the EU realise what actual effect this fine is likely to have - and no one seems to be telling them.
THEREFORE, surely the point is we should all be contacting our MEPs primarily (and only copied to MPs) to complain that the EU punishment has been brushed off by DEFRA onto others who have been doing their job (relatively) correctly. In other words the fine has missed its target. This is a real injustice. Whilst I am sure all the proposed (UK) protests will all have their local impact, I can't help but feel that they will miss their mark as much as the EU have and therefore that little will be achieved... ...unless you can all convince me I have got it wrong?
