The
Waterways Minister then told us that talk of interest payments to farmers
and EU fines were all untrue and the cuts totally unrelated.
But after he said this, didn't he say there were problems at the Rural
Payments Agency? And don't they deal with farming subsidies? And they aren't
actually DEFRA, but are as close as dammit. ISTRT the Daily Mail carried
stories
that the staff at the RPA were more interested in extracurricular activities
and creative timekeeping than they were at passing the subsidies to the
farmers.
We know the EU 'fines' haven't been assessed yet and DEFRA must be making
provision for when they are. So, yes, this aspect isn't related to the cuts
today but they will be when the fine is assessed and charged.
