My original post last Sunday came over rather gloomily in my concluding
words "not a great day in my opinion". But it seems it was not an
entirely bad day and indeed some rays of goodness are coming out of it.
So well done Clive Field and his cohorts.
I reported 200 attendees but this is now confirmed at 362, which may
still be an underestimate as at least 2 did not get chance to sign the
register.
There is now a working party arranged for next week (Friday 3rd) at
which "customer representatives" will review the circumstances with BW
using the "output/energy/passion" arising from the open meeting on
21st. The very fact that the next meeting has been set up so quickly is
a positive and we must hope that further good things emerge. The
customer representatives (our folk) will work on the basis of
1) recognition of the financial pressures on BW
2) rejection of the original BW proposal that the Severn/G&S should be
operated on a pre-book basis in the winter season
3) exploration of practical alternatives
This gives hope of an improved relationship between BW and it's
customers.
I still despond over many of the points raised last Saturday and the
way they were launched which only blurred the main issue of that day
which was "operating practice on a particular waterway in the climate
of extreme financial pressure".
