. . . . but I think he is out of town for a couple of weeks. Uncle Mort's JP3 is not fed from a day tank but from a conventional fuel lift pump and via a modern fuel filter. I changed the filter today for the second time in our 1200 engine hours. All went to plan as indicated in the SMH owner maintenance traditionally styled DVD. Needed to bleed the system of air as expected up to the injector pump after fitting the new filter and this inevitably results in about a cupful of diesel spluttering into a handful of rags and still gets some splashed around the engine room.
The filter is fitted on the tank side of the pump. My question is - why couldn't the filter go on the engine side of the pump, and then the pump could be used to vent the air through the bleed screw in the top of the filter housing thus, apparently, simplifying the whole bleeding process ? I don't think I'll bother to change it round but it would seem a more convenient arrangement. Tomorrow it's 2.1/2 gallon oil change, so there will be a bit more mess about the place. Pity Laplander is not at hand to take on the old stuff. Chief Engineer Beeky Gloucester Docks
