But she's always fair, IMHO. One day we were waiting above Wardle while
a hire boat full of novices was struggling to get into the lock from
below. An unconverted motor entered the arm behind them, and started
giving them grief along the lines of "We're a working boat, we should
have priority" (It was not, I haste to say, a boat associated with
anyone on this list).
Out pops Maureen
"What's your load?"
"We're empty"
"Got orders then?"
"Er, no"
"Then you're not carrying, are you? Wait your turn!"
And with that she saw the hire boat through and us down before going
back into the cottage to leave the motor to manage as best it could.
