If a movie don't play then you haven't got the right codec... Choice.... 1. Look for a program called GSpot(!! - no funny remarks you lot), open the file with it and it will tell you what audio and video codecs were used, and there is a test button to see if your PC can render the movie. If you can't, you might be able to search for the right codec. 2. Look for a program called VLC. It has a host of codecs built in, so doesn't use the ones in the PC. Can also play damaged files sometimes. Not always so good with m2v and mp4 movies - sometimes OK, sometimes hangs. Never kill the program with a movie running! Always finish or press the stop. (otherwise the movie keeps playing - just the sound and you can't turn it off......) 3. Another useful one is MPEG StreamClip, takes a movie and streams it into QuickTime on the fly. 4. There's also the K-Lite Codec Pack 5. And the Matroska Full Pack NOTE!!!! Too many codecs can cause problems. Installing both 4 and 5 on top of a moderate set of installed codecs is bad news, I've seen the sound go way out of sync.... Others you might see are 3ivx, ac3filter, divx, nimo, oggcodecs, xvid, intel285,.... (no real standards...!!)
