Oh dear, I guess I'm one of the main culprits here (Mea culpa). That's a real shame because in the course of transferring stuff from the laptop (that I also use for on-board communication <on topic>) to the new PC I have discovered a really perplexing problem/query regarding IE6 but I guess I'd better keep quiet about it. Shame, it just might have affected someone else also, but I'd still really like to know the answer so if anyone with the required expertise would like to e-mail me privately, I'd be much obliged. > > Could we all resist the urge to go wildly off-topic. If you want >to chat off-topic, how about emailing the person you want to >discuss whatever with and carry on your chat elsewhere? On this list you rarely know who will have the definitive answer to any question (boating or otherwise) for which you require the answer, so just how you are going to know who to e-mail privately? The only exception that I can think of would be if I wanted IT info on Apple Macs, in which case I'd e-mail Andy G off-list without a doubt. I shall also resist the temptation to reply to some of the abuse handed out in later messages from some other boating <on topic> friends (I forgive you, for you know not what you say! ;-)) Roger nb Chastened ;-) PS I also rather like the pub analogy used in later replies. PPS I also thought that we'd agreed, *long ago*, that if off-topic stuff was clearly marked as such in the subject line with OT that it was allowable in *reasonable* quantities. Similarly with cross posted e-mails marked with XP
