It is almost worth winging it on this issue.

There are an increasing number of people that don't password protect their 
home based wifi network and there is a chance you could get onto the net for 
short periods (say to send and receive email or surf a few information 
pages) without a problem.

I managed to do my banking from a bench behind the town hall in Alicante 
this year, although the policeman kept coming out to watch me a lot! We even 
got the times of the airport buses while outside the village dentist 
surgery!

My wife was very unhappy touring a housing estate on the Isle of Wight 
trying to get a connection as it was a Neighbourhood Watch area.

If you want to pay for connection and have Swisscomn or some other wifi 
access provider your account may work over here with a partner. BTOpenzone 
is £5-98 a month for 500 minutes but requires a 12 month contract. To use 
you have to be in a pub or diner that has wifi access (or moored outside 
possibly). Try these sites not exhaustive but a good start. The Cloud is 
provided where the gaming machines link players up across the UK.
