It's like a tree branch that hangs over your property. You are at liberty  to 
'prune' it at the boundary between the properties but you must offer the cut  
branch back to the person who owns the tree.
 
I was once told by a forester that if he cuts down a tree the timber still  
belongs to the landowner even if he is employed by the landowner to cut and  
remove it.
