During WWII, there was a shortage of narrow boat steerers, so several people with marine experience were hired. Their skills proved not be those required for inland work, and they tended to have difficulty handling their boats well. As a result, "sailor" became a derogatory term meaning someone who could not steer and inland boat properly. Adrian Adrian Stott 07956-299966
