A new canal basin will be created as a focus for the development, with a canal built to Selly Oak Park as a first stage re-opening of the former Lapal Canal'. That does seem to indicate that a navigable channel has been allowed for, although the bit that Sainsbury's is restoring stops at Harborne Lane bridge. As I mentioned earlier, the site plan shows the line of the canal going under Harborne Lane, so hopefully the panic has been for nothing! The Chairman of Lapal Canal Trust, Peter Best seems very upbeat about the development, and one would think he might have noticed if a big road was going to block the canal! Dorothy
