Brian - in searching for the remains of the Uttoxeter canal Google earth is quite interesting. Unfortunately the Froghall end is in one of the areas that will not enlarge but as you get to Alton Towers the track is quite clear in a line of trees at the bottom of the hill (sewage farm on the other side). In one form or another it can be followed down to the JCB site where it disappears, thereafter parch marks are visible in some fields which seem strongly suggestive of the line culminating just east of the A50 roundabout.
