Lewis Edwards in IW of GB & I (1950) credits most of his glossary terms
(which include gongoozler) to Rodolph de Salis (Bradshaws) and
Rolt (Narrow Boat). Has anyone seen the word in Bradshaws?

According to Edwards the origin of the word is believed to be from the
Lake District.
