We (well, the boat-owners among us) should perhaps all welcome both road-pricing and the end of the derogation for red diesel.
I read somewhere today that a Minister had said that when road-pricing comes in there will be no more road tax or fuel duty. The end of the derogation for red diesel means that the EU rule applies by which leisure boats have to pay the same tax on mineral oils as do road users. SO when road-pricing comes in, diesel for our boats will be tax-free! Actually I think the Minister was wrong, as there's another EU rule that lays down a minimum duty of mineral oils. But even that is, I believe, less than we're paying at the moment. Mike Stevens narrowboat Felis Catus III web-site www.mike-stevens.co.uk Defend the waterways.
