As the part of the Shroppie being talked about is a 'modern' canal the length 
which from Audlem down to Nantwich (which includes Hack Green locks) is mostly 
either in shallow cuttings or embanked through farmland. Most of the local land 
run-off heads via various streams down to the river Weaver. That said the 
Nantwich embanked bit would be a potential breach place and a breach here would 
release a lot of water and do millions of pounds worth of damage.
   
    Recent local breaches (on the Llangollen) have been caused by a field 
culvert under the canal and badgers but, as BW are often seen working in the 
area one hopes they might spot this sort of problem before it happens. Of 
course with staff reductions...
