I note in the waterways press that the Commons Select Committee on Transport has published a recommendation that BW be taken out of the valley of the shadow of DEFRA and returned to the Department of Transport. I seem to remember that the only reason BW were moved to DEFRA in the first place was that one of Tony's lords so loved them that he took them with him when he was moved from John Prescott's Ministry of Everything. So now that old S. Whitty seems to have moved on it seems a good time for BW to move on - or rather back too.
