Prompted by two threads I remember last year at this time. We were working the butty Ash up Tardebigge with a very strong cross wind. Someone had authorised a fishing match with two fishermen to each pound.
Several times it was obvious that even with people on the bank with shafts we would be blown against the bank. In each case I explained the problem to the fishermen and they were most helpful and interested, grateful for the warning so they could get their kit out of the way. One fisherman however turned his back to me and refused to listen to my warnings until the boat was about three feet off his keep net. Suddenly realising the hazard he made a grab for the net and tripped, over backwards he went on top of his tackle and bait boxes. On we went leaving him less than happy!! Normally I try to encourage co-operation between users. On this case, since the other fisherman had been quite happy I'm afraid I just laughed. All the best, Martin Reed.
