The more Mrs B and I go racing, the less we seem to know about it. We feel
lucky if we pick one horse between us that finishes with a place.

Until today that is. Didn't bother to buy a Racing Post. Didn't study form.
Didn't perform arithmetic analysis on the odds. Didn't bet a penny. But had a
great afternoon.

Looking at the first race listed in the race card spotted number 3 - Earnest,
based in Ireland. Decided to have a punt on that. Then second race - number 1
Crofton Arch suggested that we might be lucky following a boaty/canal theme.
Then spotted that the race times were different to the local programme, and in
fact these were the listings for Wetherby. Doh !

Turned over a couple of pages to find the real Ludlow listings and, though we
did not place any bets (not even on Earnest), these were our selections and
places.

2:00 Beechwood - chosen because it was "close to a boat manufacturer's name" ie
Birchwood. Finished 1st

2:30 Berkhamsted - finished 3rd

3:05 Leamington Lad - finished 3rd

3:40 Silvergino - trainer based at Alvechurch - finished 2nd

4:15 Commemoration Day - owned by Mr`A Bosley with trainer based at Banbury -
finished 2nd

4:45 Super Nomad - local horse from Teme Valley Hunt which I confused with Tame
Valley Canal. Finished 1st.

5:15 He'a a Sheila - no discernible boating connection - unplaced

So 2 x each first, second and third. Best we've ever done.

We shall be taking a copies of the waterways magazines and Nicholson's to
Worcester evening meeting on May 19th.
