We used to moor in Barton Turns Marina and never ceased to be amazed at
the difference between the outward bound and return journeys. Leaving
the marina with a years worth of London smog in our lungs, we never
noticed the pollution from the A38 as we pottered along beside it.

However, after being out in the fresh air for a week or a fortnight, the
return trip to the marina along 'pollution alley' was almost unbearable.
