When we went that way in 2005 we stopped for nights at:- Bottom of Foxton - before Tony's replacement bar had opened, had a good evening in the Foxton Locks pub with a sociable Wyvern crew. Kings Lock - just South of Leicester (although there are moorings in Leicester itself, we were running late) very quiet rural mooring. Loughborough (Bishop meadow lock) held up for 24 hours waiting for the levels to recede after a heavy storm. We met a boater there who thought the lights just warned of a fast flow on the river. He had ignored the red light further back up the river and had nearly sunk his boat by getting trapped under a bridge. He swore 'never again' so take heed of them lights. Best ever coconut rice in the Thai restaurant in Luffy.
Then we went off down the Trent but on our return :- Shardlow - I quote from my webpage on this " when in Shardlow and in need of beer or pub grub, avoid the canalside pubs; cross the Watchmakers Warehouse car park, turn left, and follow the road (apparently out of the village) until you come across what we are told is a very good Indian restaurant on the left and the Shakespeare Inn opposite. They keep a good pint and do £3.50 lunch specials. " Willington Bridge - We moored out in the country immediately after Willington and had a peaceful evening in. Alrewas - spoilt for choice for pubs here, you never know you might get an evening out with Will. Atherstone - very good butchers shop right down the bottom of the hill from the top lock. Enjoy your trip. Graham www.jannock.org.uk
