Ah yes, that'll be the "Old Angry Magazine Columnist Inn" in the picturesque 
village of Great Ranting on Thames....

Seriously, could it be the Old Anchor at Abingdon? It seems to fit the 
description, apart from the third letter being a 'c' rather than a 'g'.
