Hi all, We're back. Leicester ring abandoned due to flooding on the Trent and the Soar so plan B was to go the other way at Fradley Jct. It was hard work and it rained and rained and rained some more. It was lovely to meet up with Brian Dominic and Sue, and Will Chapman. We also met Orph and Jan Mable, and spotted a few other list members too. I managed to walk straight past Ann Coleman at the bottom of Buckby in a total dream world. Sorry Ann!
Brief summary of trip as follows. Thursday 21st Jun - moved boat from home to Tring station as still at work. 10 locks and approx 4 miles. Friday 22 June - Simon singled handed the boat from Tring station as I was at work. I caught up with him by train at Wolverton in Milton Keynes. Finished at the bottom of the Stoke Bruern flight in the dark. 25 lock day. Saturday 23 June - first proper day of hols. Bottom of Stoke Bruern to top of Hillmorton. 20 locks. Sunday 24th June - Hilmorton to Hartshill on the Coventry. Only 3 locks but a lot of chugging. Monday 25th June - Hartshill to Hopwas - 13 locks Tuesday 26th June - Hopwas to Alrewas to meet up with Brian, Sue and Will. 13 locks Wed 27th June - Alrewas to Tixall Thurs 28th June - Tixall to Penkridge - 6 locks Fri 29th June - Penkridge to Autherley Junction - 7 locks Sat 30th June - Autherley Jct to Sherbourne Wharf on Ozells Loop BCN this day it rained and rained and rained and rained - 24 locks Sun 1st July - Sherbourne Wharf to Turners Green/Rowlands on the GU to revisit the Wood at Rowington - big disappointment as it's changed hands and is the Tom O the Wood again - average pub food - 19 locks Mon 2nd July Turners Green to Cuttle - 33 locks Tue 3rd July Cuttle to Braunston Admiral Nelson - 16 locks Wed 4th July Braunston to Blisworth had a cracking evening in the pub here and came last in the pub quiz! 26 locks Thur 5th Jly Blisworth to Soulbury - pub has really gone down hill here. 10 locks Friday 6th July Soulbury to Marsworth one up on flight. Ended up having to let water down in the middle of the night as ended up on bottom at a tilt. 16 locks Sat 7th July Marsworth to home and up the remaining 6 locks of the flight in under 50 minutes 16 lock day We make it a total of 259 locks and 272 miles, so an average of 17 miles and 16 locks per day.
