I read today that BW reckon on a thousand extra marina places (or
herringbone lay-by places cut out of the bank of existing canals created by
canal-side land-owners) should be created each year for the next ten years to
provide for all the new boats and boaters BW expect. Guess by the time they are
finished promoting moorings - if they get all their boats - that BWs idea of
the canals of the future will mean lots of the system will be just like
Braunston with too many boats on to few miles of canal.
On the original question I reckon there must be getting on for 3,000 boats
in the Braunston area. And with no big marinas up the north Oxford yet there is
room for lots more - as long as they all stay in their marinas!

I got into a discussion about this last night, but too much drink was
taken
for any sense to prevail. Just how many marinas ARE there in a ten-mile
radius of Braunston? We concluded 'a frightening amount.' But something more
scientific would be good.
