I have a question for the esteemed members of this list.
After the last Canalway Cavalcae at Little Venice, three of us were
tasked with taking back two community boats ("Opportunity" and "Lady
Mildmay" for those who know them). To make it quicker throught the locks
we decided to breast them up and have one on the boats and two on the
locks, however one boat is considerably (about 10ft at a guess) longer
than the other..... Having said this the ropes on Opportunity had loops
in exactly the right places to do the job so I suspect they do this
often!
I se them up with the shorter boats bows about three feet behind the
longer boat and steered the longer boat. I had a heck of a job stopping
the whole lot going around in circles and ended up going between the two
to actually get anywhere.
So, how should I have set the boats up? Thinking about it afterwards I
suspect it may have been easier if the sterns were level (but a right
sod to tie together...)
Any ideas?
