Day 7 - 24 August 2007
Little Thetford to St Ives

It was still a little windy in the morning, but had dropped
considerably during the night. We left the mooring, and soon was upon
the shallow and slow bit to Earith Sluice. We kept to the 4 mph speed
limit, in fact sometimes it was impossible to reach that, but a couple
of plastic boats coming the other were flying along with a massive
wash following behind.

At Earith we pulled into the marina to fill up with fuel (55ppl), and
on leaving shared the lock with another boat. We just squeezed in,
with our bow on the top gate, as the lock itself is only about 12 foot
wide. We stopped for water at the EA moorings/pontoon, and noticed it
had a free pump out as well. The other boat stopped here as well, and
looks like they wanted water also.

It wasn't long before we were full, and had a good run upto St Ives.
We were straight into the two locks, and had them worked for us by EA
staff. The EA bloke at Brownshill Staunch was worried about getting
everyone through St Ives lock as it took a quarter of an hour to turn
around.

We left the lock at 5pm, and once through the bridge mooring 1D4 was
come upon very quickly. Just passed the fun fair it was the closest
we've ever been to a national – it was also one of the noisiest.

We went to the Waterspace office – which was sign posted the long way
around the site, and it was then that we found out just how muddy it
was. It was impossible to get to the office without going through some
mud, but we realised on the way back we could get along the stone road
and walk along the river front. For a change the plaque was quite
good, and actually showed the location nicely.
