Ah, this one I can guess (I think).
Basically the email software is inserting HTML links to pictures stored
locally, so when your friend receives the email (who presumably does not
have the pictures on his machine) his software cannot find them and so
puts a cross in. When you look in your sent mail you may not be able to
see the pictures (if for example you have moved them from where you
stored them when you inserted them into the email), particulalrly if
they were on a memory stick which you have now removed.
Basically you need to embed the pictures instead of links to them.
Of course I could be wrong....
