It seems that there is an abundance of apples and plums this year.
The 'help yourself' buckets are appearing canalside, so here's a recipe I
cooked up yesterday for plum chutney.

1 kg plums
1 large onion
1 large cooking apple
2 teaspoons each of.... cinnamon, ginger, allspice
A pinch of mace OR nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
250 ml vinegar
250 g sugar

Peel, stone and chop everything that needs it.
Bung all in a big enough pan
Bring to boil
Simmer until thick and syrupy
Put into clean jars that have been sterilised in a hot oven for 5 mins, or
sloshed out with boiling water just as you need them
Seal and cool

It is quite a spicy one, you could cut down on the ginger if you
wish...tastes like a Christmas treat to me!
