A comment from the other side of the pond....

When Canada was 'forced' into the metric system I got
a choice contract with the Can. Federal Gov't to do
the electrical design for a large national park lodge
in the far north...because I could 'speak' metric,
critical to all drawings and materials lists being
done in metric from then on.

The project went smoothly and it went out for contract
on time. On bids closing date, the Gov't design office
contacted me and asked if I would do the job
again...but in imperial measurement... turns out no
one 'up north' could speak metric so no one bid! And
materials suppliers up there were still using imperial
measure.

I must admit I really didn't mind being paid twice
;-)

Further to that, I was in a lumberyard only a few days
ago and everyone still talks about 4x2s, 4x8 plywood,
etc.

Cheers, Marie
