Unsurprising, if their installation is like ours.
Our speed wheel is exactly that - it governs the speed
of the engine. We have a separate fore-and-aft gear rod
under the boatman's cabin roof, but many a trad installation
has a gear wheel as well as a speed wheel, AFAIK.
