THE INLAND WATERWAYS PROTECTION SOCIETY LTD

WARWICK AND BIRMINGHAM CANAL

10.35am Saturday 16th February
2008

Today's walk is from Birmingham Snow Hill Station to Olton along the Warwick
& Birmingham Canal. via Ashted Locks and Tunnel, Digbeth Basin, Camp Hill
etc. to Olton, where there is a station nearby for return to Snow Hill by train.

We will meet at the entrance to Snow Hill Station at 10.35 a.m. and walk down
part of the Farmers' Bridge flight. There is very good parking at Snow Hill and
there is also parking at Olton Station. If anyone wishes to park at Olton and
do
the train journey in the morning, there is a train from Olton at 9.57 a.m.
arriving
at Snow Hill at 10.11 a.m. If you miss that one there is a later one at 10.20
a.m
arriving at 10.31 a.m. Anyone travelling by  train to New Street will have a
short
walk to Snow Hill.

As eating establishments are not plentiful it will be essential to bring your
own
sandwiches and liquid refreshments. Mars bars can be purchased at Snow Hill!
There are conveniences at Camp Hill and BWB keys will be available. If
anyone wishes to shorten the walk, it will be possible to return from Tyseley
or
Acocks Green. I have timetables for the trains. In either case it will mean a
short walk and access to the road from the towpath is limited in places.

As always, stout shoes or boots and waterproofs are recommended.

Please ring me on Friday evening, 15th February, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.,
to let me know if you intend to come on 01384 294131. Please leave a
message on my answer phone if I am not available. I look forward to seeing
you.
