Whilst on the subject of BW in Newark your boaters also might to like to start
making waves on the subject of the manning of the Trent locks.
There are moves in Newark not to man the Trent locks during the week in the
summer, only at the weekend. This to me is absolute lunacy.
For a start it would almost preclude single handed boaters from using the
locks with any degree of safety. Even if there are two people on the boat and
you are going up in the lock to make it easier you have two on the boat to tie
onto the vertical wires. Someone then climbs the ladder to work the lock. BW
have, apparently, banned their lockkeepers from using the ladders on Health &
Safety grounds.
Obviously a case of employees first and sod the customers. They are a bl**dy
nuisance for wanting to use our waterway anyway.
Any protests to Caroline Kileavy, at Newark, [EMAIL PROTECTED] . The more
the better.

Good news (I think ?)
I had a letter this morning from Caroline Killeavy informing us that
they are retracting the previous closure
notice as BW are now reducing online moorings by the fairer means of
natural wastage, as moorings become vacant BW will not re let them
(Will this affect their tendering practice I wonder ?).
All moorers at Sawley will be on full long term status !
Now for the fly in the ointment
and to quote CK herself "Whilst it is still our intension to CLOSE
Sawley cut to Long term moorers , we are offering all boaters
currently moored there a Long term mooring permit UNTIL we are able to
identify suitable alternatives for them "
So BW east midlands waterways who have said all along that the closure
of the moorings at Sawley was
just National policy and out of their hands, Now the National policy
has changed they are saying they want to close the moorings anyway ?
Well Thank you to everyone for their support we managed 324 signatures
on the petition
This Victory is the end of the old fight but the begining of the new
fight to
SAVE SAWLEY CUT MOORINGS !
