I reckon this isn't OT, as it's about the way I interact with other
boaters.

For a long time now I've used Vispa as my ISP, first of all as a dial
up customer (currently GBP8 per month), and more recently I've used
their basic web hosting service at another GBP4 pm. They also hold my
domain name registration for nbsanity.net.

Since I now use T-mobile to get on line, I don't need the dial up
facility, and I have an alternate email address via .Mac. This weekend
the web host went down on Sunday morning with a server hard disk
failure and has yet to reappear, so neither my main website nor my main
email address are working at the moment.

As always when this sort of thing happens, I'm wondering if I'd do
better elsewhere for the web host and domain name. But... 12 squid a
month might be cheap for all the traffic and web space I seem to need,
and how difficult would it be to get my domain name moved to another
provider?

Any advice or a share of other folk's experience with this sort of
stuff would be welcome.

TIA
