Nursers dock painted seatboard.
This was removed from the original cabin of the Thomas Clayton horse
tanker tar boat "Gifford" when the boat was extensively rebuilt at
Peter Keays dock in the early 1970's.
The seatboard is owned now by Mr Tony Miles, who was the dock
manager, at Keays and now lives in France. He wants it to go to an
appreciative enthusiast who will enjoy the art. He can be contacted
on 0033 468 414 314 for further information.
Length is 27.75 inches by 11 inches and it is 0.75 inches thick.
The reverse is painted in common grey primer and the front decoration
is vivid and bright.
Many modern boats do not have seatboards in their "boatmans cabins"
this is due to builders not really being familiar with proper boat
living. The seatboard fitted across the boat just aft of the table
cupboard allowing a person to be seated at the table looking out of
the cabin doors.
This item is now being offered for sale on Ebay by ourselves on
behalf or Tony Miles, the auction starts Sunday 11th May at 19.30 and
runs for seven days.
