Wed Jun 4th - 25 miles, 2 furlongs, 6 locks - Nottingham to Newark
Total cruising time 5 hours 10 minutes.

Bright sunshine this morning. What a contrast to yesterday - let's hope
it holds! Set off from our overnight mooring just below Castle Lock
just after 8.00am. Stopping on the lock landing above Meadow Lane lock
I was accosted by a local, dressing gown clad, boater asking if he could
get to Liverpool if he went downstream. After some discussion where I
suggested upstream might be a better bet, but that yes he could get
there by going downstream he asked if he could help. He didn't look to
impressed when I gave him the Thetford which needed emptying. :-) I
gather he meant with operating the lock. We got out of the lock (and
out of earshot of said local) at 8.40am and turned upstream to get to
the navigable head. Turned round at the footbridge at 8.55am and then
sped downstream through the various locks before mooring below Newark
Town lock at 1.25pm. Tomorrow we head to Cromwell lock for an 8.00am
exit and then down to West Stockwith and the Chesterfield Canal.
