Tue Jun 10th - 14 miles, 3 locks - Thorne to Rawcliffe
Total cruising time 5 hours.

Addendum to last night. Two pubs shown in Thorne, The Rising Sun on the
South side of the navigation has closed. The Canal Tavern on the North
side was open, so I wandered in for a drink. My eyes lit up when I saw
that the only real ale was Black Sheep. Sadly, this batch appears to
have been brewed by Sarsons, as it was almost undrinkable. I left after
half a pint!

Moved off from my overnight mooring at 9.35am, up through Thorne lock
and Swing Bridge to Stanilands Marina where Arun was to be slipped out.
This happened at 10.30am and revealed a rudder with a distinct kink in
it. The man from Thorne Boat services was already there, and had the
rudder off, straightened and refitted in three and a half hours
(including a half hour break for lunch). Back in the water by 2.25pm
just in time to see the boat I had come down from West Stockwith with
leaving the landing stage for Thorne lock and Swing Bridge. We shared
the work at Bramwith Swing Bridge and Bramwith lock. Me doing the
bridge, they the lock. They were mooring there by Bramwith Junction, so
I didn't see them again, although I might meet them again as I traverse
the North East waterways. I turned hard right at the Junction at
3.55pm, heading up the New Junction Canal. Through the various swing
and lift bridges and Sykehouse lock and turned right at Southfield
Junction at 6.15pm. Moored for the night outside the Black Horse at
Rawcliffe, only to find that this has closed as well. No beer for me
tonight. :-( Tomorrow's plan is out onto the Ouse at Goole and up the
Derwent, probably stopping at Stamford Bridge. Sadly, Cottingworth lock
is out of action for the foreseeable future, so the Pocklington Canal
will not feature on Arun's itinerary this time.
