Which way are you heading? It's just that one of our crew rang last night to warn me that they had problems today at both West Retford and Whitsunday Pie locks with difficult to open and leaking gates. At one of them, they were only able to open the gates with the assistance of a 60' boat. I'm a bit concerned because I've got a couple of charters on Saturday afternoon. We had planned on going from Retford (our base) to Clarborough and back which means going through Whitsunday Pie, but we could go the other way which means taking in West Retford. By the sounds of it, we're caught between two evils, so any information would be gratefully received. There's currently only one working paddle at the top of Retford Town lock as well which makes this even slower to fill than usual. Apparently, there's some damage, so BW have chained it up. It's been like that several weeks now. Only the non-towpath side paddle is operative. I'm going to try and follow up with BW myself today and tomorrow; if I find anything out myself, I'll post here. -- David Morris Skipper, Seth Ellis tripboat, Retford
