Today's walk is, by request, shorter than usual, and is along the old Warwick
and Birmingham Canal and Warwick and Napton Canal. The walk is about 5
miles, but if anyone is feeling more energetic it can be extended by a further
two miles by continuing to Leamington Spa.

We will meet at Hatton Station at 10.45 a.m. Car parking is free. There is a
train from Birmingham Snow Hill at 9.52 a.m. arriving at Hatton at 10.36 a.m.
(The train will go through to Warwick Parkway and then a bus will bring
passengers back to Hatton). I will check the times nearer to the date.

We will start the walk at 11 a.m. as it is only about 1 mile to the top lock of
the
Hatton flight and B.W. café, where I thought we could have an early lunch.
Drinks and snacks are available, tables outside, conveniences, and a shop for
cards and books!
If anyone would prefer a pub The Waterman is on the opposite side of the
canal and is reached by walking down four locks and across and a footpath
back up.

After our break we will walk down the 21 locks to Warwick. It is a short walk
from the towpath to Warwick Station. There is a train from Warwick at 16.43
arriving at Hatton at 16.49. (This train departs Leamington at 16.39).

Hatton Station can be reached either from Junction 15 on the M40, taking the
A46 North, and then turning left off the dual carriageway on to Birmingham
Road A4177. The road climbs up the hill with the Hatton locks on the left. At
the top of the hill after The Waterman turn left on the B4439 (Hockley Road)
and then second left into Station Road. If you are travelling from the North
and
prefer not to use motorways you can use the A446 to Stonebridge roundabout,
then the A452 through Balsall Common. The road then changes to the A4177.
Continue on the A4177 taking the first left at Five Ways and there is a small
church on the right hand side and a sign will flash telling you to "Slow down".

There is then a right turn on to the B4439. Second left into Station Road.
You
will cross the canal first of all and then immediately on the left is the turn
into
the Station car park.

Stout shoes or boots and waterproofs are recommended. Please ring me on
the Friday evening between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on 01270 582015 if you intend
to come.
I look forward to seeing you.

Betty Dobbs.

Next time out - 4/5 OCTOBER WEEKEND AWAY - BUDE AND ROLLE
